It might be Good Friday, but there are still lots of fun events open for families. Check out the City of Moncton’s Maple Sugar Camp, open 10am until 4pm, with tours at 11am and 2pm (same hours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). Head to the Kay Arena for a free public skate from 3:30pm until 4:30 pm (skate times are also available on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the Red Ball Centre). At 5:30pm, it’s Open Fun at the Moncton SportsDome; giant inflatables, games, and lots of activities until 8pm. Parents get in free, kids under 5 are $10 each, $15 for those 6 and older.
Saturday’s are Colourfilled Saturdays for Children at the Dieppe Centre of Arts and Culture; an explorative painting class for children ages 5 to 12. Cost is $5 for one class, $65 for five weeks, or $120 for 10 weeks. There are three one-hour classes each Saturday, starting at 9:30am; each class is limited to 10 students.
Drop in to the Moncton Public Library on Saturday for an Easter craft; free any time in the children’s section.
There is an activity included with admission to Resurgo Place on Saturday (11am until 4pm) and Sunday (1pm to 4pm); this week, it’s water bottle rocket bowling! There is also a special Easter scavenger hunt this weekend (included with admission). Check the museum website for admission prices and hours.
This week’s Family Favourites movie at Dieppe Cineplex is Hop, the tale of the Easter Bunny’s teenage son’s journey to Hollywood to become a rock n’ roll drummer. The movie starts at 11am, admission is $2.99.
The Easter Bunny is hopping by Champlain Place on Saturday, April 4. He won't be sitting still, but hopping around visiting with the young and young at heart between 11am and 1pm, and again from 2pm until 4pm.
The Easter Bunny will be also stopping by the Handmade Mom and Baby Show being held at the Lions Club in Riverview on Saturday, April 4. The show is open from 10am until 4pm; the Easter Bunny is scheduled to be there between 1pm and 3pm.
Wild Cheer Athletics is holding an Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 4, starting at 4pm. The gym will be open with an Easter egg hunt, games, prizes, refreshments, face painting, and a visit from the Easter bunny. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Lutes Mountain Church of the Nazarene is planning a Community Easter Family Fest on Saturday, April 4, from 1pm until 4pm. There will be an egg hunt, face painting, a photobooth, a craft station, a snowman building or snow painting competition, a hot-dog roast, a ball hockey tournament, and more! The afternoon will conclude with some fun kid songs and an Easter devotional. The event is free, but donations will be taken for the upcoming Lutes Mountain Haiti Missions trip.
The Moncton Wesleyan Church is holding an Easter Bunny Blast on Saturday, April 4 from 8am until noon. This free event includes face painting, bouncy castles, a pancake breakfast – and 40,000 Easter eggs! You can register online.
On Saturday, bring your appetites and your rubber boots to Stilesville's Pancake & Pure Maple Syrup Brunch. From 8am until 1pm you can enjoy buckwheat and buttermilk pancakes (made with local flour and dairy), pure maple syrup, sausages from Rinzler Meats, home-baked beans, rolls from Brothers Bakery, homemade sweets, coffee and tea – and a visit to the Maple Sugar Camps. Cost is $10 adults, $5 for kids under 12.
The Trites Family Sugar Bush offers free guided tours, all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes, wood-fire baked beans in maple syrup, sausages maple syrup, camp coffee, tea or juice, and all-you-can-eat taffy, with breakfasts served Saturdays and Sundays from 9am until 3pm. The camp produces syrup, sugar, butter, and hard candy.
