Stock up on some summer reading materials for kids and parents at the Moncton Library’s used book sale. They also have board games, puzzles, DVDs, CDs, and magazines. Open Friday and Saturday from 10am until 5pm.
Friday is open fun at the Moncton SportsDome; giant inflatables, games, and lots of activities. Runs from 5:30pm to 8pm. Parents get in free, kids under 5 are $10 each, $15 for those 6 and older.
Bowling is a great family night out: head to Fairlanes for Glow Bowling each Friday and Saturday night from 7pm until midnight. Between 4pm and 6pm you can bowl for $5, including shoe rental – and ‘bumper bowling’ is available. Bumper bowling is also available at Parklane Bowling in Riverview.
Take part in Colourfilled Saturdays for Children at the Dieppe Centre of Arts and Culture, an explorative painting class for children ages 5 to 12. Cost is $5 per class; there are three one-hour classes each Saturday, starting at 9:30am. Register at the Centre.
Saturday is the Spring Fair at Frank L. Bowser elementary in Riverview. The free event is open to the public; there is a cost to purchase tickets for the carnival games and snacks. The fundraising even includes a BBQ sponsored by Dairy Queen and a silent auction. It takes place from 10am until 1pm at the school.
The Boys and Girls Club in Dieppe is holding its monthly RC Day on Saturday from 12:30pm until 2:30pm. Everyone is welcome to bring remote controlled vehicles to the gym; there are ramps and lots of fun to be had! There is also a Mother’s Day card making craft scheduled for Saturday.
Looking for something special to do with little ones for Mother’s Day? Head to a special Mother's Day storytime at the Moncton Public Library on Saturday at 11am; there will be a French storytime at 10am. A craft will be included – and will be available as a drop-in activity throughout the day! Call 869-6036 or stop by the library’s Children's Desk to register.
Take a Saturday drive to the Keillor House Museum in Dorchester and treat Mom to their Mother’s Day Tea from 2pm until 4pm.
There’s a Mother’s Day Craft and Small Business Sale on Saturday from 9am until 2pm. Plan an outing with Mom or just sneak out for a great local gift — she doesn’t need to know it was last minute! The sale is at the Lion’s Club on Mark Avenue.
Kent Trinity Drive is hosting a free Mother’s Day seed planting workshop for kids and parents on Saturday at 10am. There are only 20 spots available, so call the store at 862-3400 to register.
Home Depot’s monthly drop-in craft for kids takes place this Saturday at 10am. Children ages 4 to 12 can build a picket fence frame.
The weekly drop-in craft at Michaels is a birthday hat. Cost is $2 per child for 30 minutes; ages 3 and up. Drop in starting at 10am; event finishes at noon.
There is also an activity included with admission to Resurgo Place on Saturday (11am until 4pm) and Sunday (1pm to 4pm). Check the museum website for admission prices and hours; mom gets in for half price on Sunday!
On Sunday, take the family for frozen yogurt at Goji's in Trinity, Riverview, or Dieppe – Mom's treat is free!
Perhaps you want to take the family for a dip in the pool this weekend? The Dieppe Aquatic Centre holds public swims on Friday from 6pm until 7:55pm, Saturday from 3pm to 4:55pm and 6pm to 7:55pm (with the 22 meter inflatable wibit structure in the main pool), and on Sunday from 3pm to 4:55pm. A family of two adults and children is $16.
Non-members are welcome to public swims at the YMCA on Friday nights from 6:30pm until 8:30pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:30pm until 4:30pm. Cost is $8 for adults, $5.50 for students, and $4.50 for youth; the family rate is $15.

And looking ahead … Registration for workshops during Dieppe's Children’s Festival begins this Tuesday, May 12. You can register online or at the Aquatic and Sports Centre; registration closes Thursday, May 21. If you don’t live in Dieppe, you can begin registering for events on Thursday, May 14. The Children’s Festival is for ages 3 to 12, and takes place on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24. There will be a non-registration, free event each day from 1pm until 4pm, as well.
