Weekend Round-Up

December 5, 2014momstownFamily Life, ParentingNo comments
It’s a busy time of year, but that doesn’t mean parents aren’t always on the look-out for activities. Here are a few taking place around Moncton December 5 – 7, 2014.

Compiled by Jenna Morton

David Myles is at Champlain Place between 12 and 1:30pm on Friday. He's taking donations of non-perishables and money to support local food banks in New Brunswick.

The Academy of Classical Ballet & Modern Dance is presenting The Nutcracker at the Capitol Theatre this weekend. Tickets are in the $20-$30 range; contact the Capitol at 856-4379. Performances are on Friday at 7pm, on Saturday at 2pm and 7pm, and on Sunday at 2pm.

The Petitcodiac Santa parade is Friday night, starting at 7pm. Line up begins at the Baptist Church on Renfrew Street.

Hillsborough's Santa Parade will take place on Saturday, stating at 6:30pm. The route begins at the school, then travels down Main Street to the post office.

Santa will also stop in to the Mistletoe Market Arts & Craft Expo at Northrop Frye School (1392 Ryan Street) on Saturday. For $5, you can get your photo with Santa between 11am & 1pm. The craft fair runs from 9am-4pm, with lots of vendors with kids' items. There will also be a cupcake decorating station for children, at a cost of $1. Admission is $1, with children 12 and under free.

Big Hearts Small City is hosting Santa's Gift Shop on Saturday. This is a chance for children to shop for their parents; each gift available is less than $2 and is gift-wrapped on site. Children will be teamed up with volunteers from Oulton College, who will act as their personal shoppers, allowing parents to be surprised by the gifts on Christmas. Santa's Gift Shop will be set up at Wedgewood Hall, 80 Lockhart Avenue, Moncton, between 10am and 2pm.

Santa will be at the Atlantic Superstore in Riverview (429 Coverdale Road) for a gingerbread house workshop on Sunday. The cost is $18/person, with a maximum of two people per house. All materials are included; just bring your creativity. The first workshop runs from 1:30-3:30pm.

Michael's Kids Club craft on Saturday (10-noon, drop in, $2/child, ages 3+) is 'happy holiday elves.'

The Moncton Public Library (644 Main Street) is hosting a Christmas Storytime in Spanish on Saturday, from 10:30-11:30am. Registrer by phone at 869-6036.

Superstore on Main Street is holding a gingerbread house workshop on Sunday from 2pm-3pm. Cost is $18 per person, with a maximum of two people per house. Superstore provides the pre-assembled house, royal icing, and all the candies, and you have a blast decorating.

Santa is expected to do some holiday shopping and hand-shaking at the Muddy River Rollers Holiday Bazaar on Sunday. The event runs from 10am-6pm at the Lions Club in Moncton (55 Mark Avenue); look for Santa to arrive around 1pm. Admission is $4.
